Sklithro: The miracle of finding the image of the Living Source Springtime is upon us in Sklithro-Zelenich. Happy Easter! Every spring before Easter, the people of Zelenich and Sklithro would walk to the south-east slopes of Mount Gradishta to gather small yellow flowers called grotvets. These humble mountain flowers were brought back to the village to decorate the Epitaph (Christ’s tomb) on Good Friday. Osio - the north side of Gradishta before you enter the “Green Valley” The Lazarines tradition of Western Macedonia is one of the oldest spring customs in the Balkans. On Lazarus Saturday, young girls dressed in traditional clothing go from house to house singing Lazarus songs, carrying flower baskets, and offering wishes for health, fertility, and prosperity. In return, they receive eggs, money, or sweets. Road to “Izvoro” being paved. Izvoro, the original village spring, was the lifeline of the first settlers more than 600 years ago — the place where life began. The word comes from the ancient Proto Slavic (Macedonian) word izvor, meaning “source” or “where water flows out.” For the people of Zelenich–Sklithro, Izvoro is not just a spring, but the true origin of the village, its people, and their history Happy 1st Day of Spring - the storks are back to start the spring season.
